I am Shreyasi* Das, a multidisciplinary mixed-media visual artist specializing in animation and textiles. My work gently weaves textiles, drawing, painting, found objects, and digital media to create textured compositions, blending abstract and figurative imagery. As a highly sensitive, neurodivergent, and chronically ill Bengali daughter, I practice experimental story-telling and the examination of intimate memories through my materials and craft. I favour memory-soaked materials - thin pages of journals and garments made diaphanous with time - paying deep attention to the stories and textures held within and allowing my work to unfold and guide me.
I am also an arts facilitator and guide working with local and online communities to build creative care practices (Points Communs, OhHEY Community). I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Animation and a minor in Writing Studies from Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. In 2025, I was a recipient of the Lenore G. Tawney Scholarship in craft and a mentee with Women In Animation. I have also been a mentor at Sony Pictures Imageworks and have volunteered as a panelist and juror for various film festivals and animation societies in North America.
For the last decade, I worked at Sony Pictures Imageworks as an award-winning Lighting and Look Development Artist for feature animation films. My recent work includes KPop Demon Hunters, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Seabeast, and Over the Moon, nominated for the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, Visual Effects Society Awards, and Annie Awards. The next chapter in my career is in independent film production, studio arts, and therapeutic arts facilitation, challenging patriarchal and ableist structures within and beyond the animation industry. I am currently working on an experimental series of short, mixed-media, frame-by-frame animations.
I am based in Tiohtià:ke (colonially known as Montréal, Canada) and was raised in West Bengal, India.
